cheers!

Thanks ulrik!
The news about Mac OS are that it is now maintained by secondplanet and that there is a working homebrew build script that seems to work fine. Not any binary package yet.

It seems only the Linux version of Synfig 0.63 has been released, no Windows or Mac version yet. I downloaded the most current Windows version since I needed to update anyway.
Congratulations! Eventually I will be making some Synfig video tutorials (hopefully soon) to add to the excellent video tutorials already on the site. I know I haven't been active on the forums, but I do lurk.

I've updated the link for windows binaries this morning:

Thought I'd post some cool new tests people have made with the new Advanced Outline features in Synfig 0.63.00:
This horse was made with OUTLINES only, by varying the line widths:
Horse made of lines
A snake made of lines:

And me just using outlines in a very standard way:
You can follow the latest tests people have done in this thread:

Congrats! This is something i keep meaning to try and have yet to get around to
Love the new width tool, sometimes I illustrate in AS just because of this feature but in combination with control points this might be very helpful!
All the best.

I have to confess the last time I looked at Synfig I thought it was extremely powerful but painfully slow (on my PC) ..loved the magnifying glass example.
I'm all OSX now and might take a squint again.. I know you were looking at homebrew is that looking good.. I'm mainly on macports but "brew would do"
(ps: I can see loads of effort put in by the guys over there)

Hey Genete nice job on the advanced outlines wiki page. Lots of pictures is good.
@SvenFoster: I can't speak for the Mac version, but a couple of years ago Synfig was AWFUL on Windows, crashing frequently. Today, by comparison, it's very stable. It still crashes once in a while, but not enough to be distracting.

I've downloaded the Mac version (0.62.02) and tried installing it on two different machines, but keep getting a message saying the installation failed. I'm running 10.6.7 (Snow Leopard). Does this only work on 10.5, maybe? I've tried installing several times with the same results, even re-downloaded the installer and still no success.

Jack,
Some kind soul created a macport of the 0.62 version and I can confirm that that works. on 10.6.7 (I had the same error message when using the installer provided.)
If you've got mac ports installed its as simple as: port install synfigstudio
If not, you could try the "brew" version that is on the synfig site... should only be a couple of commands (one of them to install brew)...
but like you, I would be much happier to have an installer package... oh well.

Thanks, Sven. Maybe I'll look into Macports when I have a little more time. It's the command typing business that scares me, as I am definitely not a programmer sort of person. But it sounds simple enough.

Hi!
Yes it's true there is a port for Synfig in Macport and it's very easy to install you just have to open terminal and write:
sudo port install synfigstudio
press enter and then it build for a long time depending on how fast your machine is.
It will install the old version 0.62.02, the new v.0.63.00 is not yet in the macport library.
Here you can read how I managed to build the new version:

Please feel free to ask if there is something you wonder in that topic at the Synfig forum.
Good luck!

Thanks ulrik. I'll give this a try on my Mac at home later this evening. I'll let you know how it goes. If it works, then I'll give a try installing it on my Mac here at work.
