Ctrl R gives tighter frame

When I press Ctrl R to see a sample image of a render I get given a different frame - much tighter - that what I have chosen. If I actually render the animation, the framing is correct.....
anyone else experience this?

This continues to be a problem for me. I can't render the frame. I get a tighter image.

Not for me, I get exactly the same frame I desire.

I get this when I have HDTV1080p set in the project settings, but when I ctr+r the scene I can scroll around the image by left click/drag on the preview window.

OH that, yes mine does that too. It is the same frame but the preview for some reason will be bigger than your monitor resolution.

Yes, my project settings are at 1080p and although I didn't realise it beforehand, I can move around and see the rest of the image - just not see it all at once.
I assume the only solution for this is me buying a monitor with greater resolution?
Or does anyone have any other thoughts of how I might see the whole image?
Thanks!

Save it and open in any image app.

A different monitor won't help. I sometimes use my hd television set as my monitor and it does that there too. You can change the project settings to something else while you work, then change it back when you want to do your final export. Or as Slowtiger said, save as a png or jpg. You can then import the image if you want a quick reference.
