ASP 7 - Unable to make single brush stroke

In Ver. 7, AS pro, you cannot make a single brush stroke by just clicking on the canvas. You get a point, but no brush stroke...
The only way to show a single brush stroke is to either try to make a VERY small path with the click before you release the mouse button, or increase the stroke spacing over 125% and then drag out a path...
