This may sound like a stupid question,
I'm using 7 and I can't seem to animate the layer order, I have check yes on all layers in the layer pallette but it ' don't seem to work"
In the last version it was TOO easy to do, now I can't seem to do it at all.
What am I missing here?

Hey Chucky.
From memory I think it's a checkbox you have to initiate somewhere? Still with 5.6 here.
EDIT: In the Group Layer properties there is a checkbox that says "allow animated Layer effects" I think that could be the one.
Cheers

Thanks DK , I had actually done that , to all the layers , just in case but no keyframes are being added when I change the layer order.

Direct from AS help:
Allow animated layer effects: When checked allows you to animate layer effects by varying settings through the timeline. When unchecked, layer effects do not animate.

I just created an animated layer ordered file in AS 5.6 and imported to 7 and it worked fine. It must be a setting we are missing somewhere.....chime in please anyone?

Very Mysterious DK,
also unusual that it hasn't been uncovered before.
Thanks for checking it out, I thought I was going prematurely senile.
I've checked and unchecked everything in sight, nada.

Hey Chucky....this is strange...
I imported a file that had animnated layer ordering in it...and I was able to create new keyframes using that file withing AS7 no probs at all....as soon as I started a new project and tried the animated layer ordering again from fresh.....no go????

I am also WIN XP.
Strange? Tomorrow I will try it on my WIN 7 System and report back. Definately cannot get it to work just like Chucky though.

Bizarrely, I made a duplicate of the layer and moved it up the layer order in order to use visibility to mimic the layer order change, and guess what appeared in the timeline.
You guessed it, a layer order keyframe channel with a keyframe at the point in the timeline where I had pasted the layer,
but...
Unfortunately I still can't make any real layer order keys that actually change order, or even make the layer order channels open where I really need them.
Sigh.
My deadline is looking doomed there's been so many unexpected fails in version 7 and it's too late to turn back now.

Maybe it's a region lock.
