I've been lurking a while and realise I've got an awful lot to learn, but here is one of my first attempts...

I know it's really simple but it's made me smile...

It's an excellent idea. A lone alien sending out his Slim Whitman mating wails. But you could make the alien more expressive to sell the idea better and make it funnier. Something like this

I like the little guy and think he will develop more expression in the way you suggest... He may even find a girl friend.... just got to improve my skills first.

this is fun keep going with it... I think the first step is to work on the lipsync - the introduction of a closed mouth shape would really help... maybe draw the mouths in AS with switch layer interpolation?
