Downloads - what is DMG?

Hi, I just purchased an upgrade and I noticed there are two files for download, one is a self-explanatory .exe file, the other is a larger (by at least 25%) .dng file. Not knowing what to do I downloaded both. I'm now faced with the decision of what to do next.
Advice?

DMG is for the Mac version. It's the mac installer. Strange they would be on the same page with no explanation.
