I played a bit with the physic function and also with perspective shadow, this was my setup:

*test folder
----*physics folder
--------*ball folder (perspective shadow enabled, origo at ground plane)
------------*ball (shading enabled)
--------*wall 1
--------*wall 2
--------*ground
----*bkgr layer

I noticed it is possible to setup light directions, maybe you knew that but for me it was a surprise :)

I forgot to say, the physics worked on the ball even though it was in a folder, I also tried with the ball inside 3 folders deep, with 3 different perspective shadows on the ball, it worked :)

I don't have 7 but that looks pretty cool.

I'm curious, can you bake the animation (set key frames) after you get the physics to where you want them and then go in and tweak/edit the animation?

Yes you can, after running the animation AS will set all keyframes then you check the "baked physics" button and you will be able to tweak everything to your likings.
