When i export video in AS7 two bars appear on top of the window, can somebody tell me why AS7 shows 2 bars instead of one?
May be several of you consider this a stupid question but im just curious.

I'm not working in ASP7 yet, but I believe what you're seeing is a result of the multi-thread rendering. So you either have a dual-core processor or a processor with hyper-threading enabled. I could be wrong though.

It means you have a duel core processor ASP can handle up to 4 I think.

But for single core users (IMO) ASP7 renders a tad slower than AS6, but not that much its less than 20% slower but it might just be that 7 has more behind the scene stuff that 6 didn't have that makes it a tad slower.

My computer has two cores but yet as7 is slower than as6 when rendering.

That's something that SM will have to address, from what I was told, the duel core rendering is supposed to be faster.

That's weird, Parker, I have tested AS7 rendering on 1, 2 and 4 cores and the result is always the expected, faster where there are more cores.

Im going to try again.

Definitely faster for me!! I had an animation that took 7 minutes to render. ASP7 takes under 2 now. Love that it uses more than one core to render!!

Suggestion to Mike, maybe a preference feature that allows you to specify how many cores are going to be used to render, like Blender does, and also the capability to use more than 4 cores.

Well AS7 is faster rendering video than AS6, thats for sure but when its about images AS7 is a bit slower.

A single frame render only uses 1 core. Animations use multiple cores for each frame. 1 frame only uses 1 core so the render times would be the same as v6.

It seems that people are getting really different results with AS7 rendering speeds. I think someone posted in this forum that multi-core rendering worked with some of their codecs, but not all. There's also a theory on the kellytown forum that Intel processors may not be able to render using multiple cores.

I have an Intel Mac with two cores (New Mac mini, JUST ARRIVED TODAY!! WOOHOOO!) and it uses both cores for rendering.

Any issues with rendering times can't be settled via "anecdotal stories" from random unscientific sources, especially from a group of self proclaimed "smith mcro haters". There has to be some kind of benchmarking done based on some kind of verifiable set of tests. I can't accept the statements from someone saying "I think it's slower. It feels slower. I timed it and it's kind of slower I think so anyway."

Someone needs to do multiple renders of the same thing a bunch of times on different systems to get an average overall time. Then you need some way to figure out the speed comparisons of ONE processor versus two. For goodness sakes what if someones email was downloading automatically during a render test? Or some background task started up? My PC becomes totally useless when the dang indexer starts up.
