just want opinions on learning anime studio debut 6,im a beginner..is it a good idea to purchase the tutorial dvd? ive seen some tutorials on youtube but they arent very good.

My tip is to search and ask this forum.
You can learn a lot from others animators, even from who had started after you.

the manual is pretty comprehensive - go through it and you'll be away...

I'm also kind of a beginner, although I've been a beginner for a while now. I spend a little time every week learning AS. I've never really done much with it so far, which is probably where I need to go next.

Anyway, a lot of the tutorials on Youtube are roughly made although some are pretty nicely made. Some of the guys doing the tutorials are pretty wordy and can't stay on-topic and others do very well. All in all the're uneven but there's a lot that can be learned from them; even from the poorer ones.

My approach has been to learn from every source I can find. Reading this forum has taught me a lot and every time I've asked a question here it's been answered thoughtfully and thoroughly.

At one point I spent $30 for a month's access to the AS 5.6 tutorial at www.vtc.com and that was helpful, although it was a little too much material to cover in a month. I managed to see all of it and try out most of it and I learned a lot but I really needed a couple more months with that. At some point I'll do that again.

Of course the tutorials included with AS and the tutorials linked to in these forums are excellent sources. Don't be bothered by amateurish tutorials if they can teach you something.

What you won't find, or at least I haven't found, is anything like a class to teach how to create cartoons using AS, so that means I've had to do some digging and learn things where I can find them. There are a lot of places to learn so that works out fairly well.

ok thanks for the advice,..I purchased the program online so i never got a beginner manual..maybe i'll do a websearch and see if i can find a download for it,..thanks

Anime Studio Debut 7 has a Beginners mode, which looks very intuitive to get the basics. I have tried the demo, but as I'm using the pro software for several years, I can't be 100% sure it will be useful for newbies. However, at least to me it looks very useful , you should try.

One of the moderators of this site, Heyvern, has a website that has about ten great tutorials on it. If you've seen his "demo reel" on Youtube, you'll jump at the chance to learn from him. He's doing stuff with bones on there that I didn't even know was possible haha.

Anyway, there's only two problems with the site: He hasn't updated it in over a year, and some of the videos aren't working properly. I've tried to contact him and report the problem, but haven't heard back from him yet. If you want to check out the site, though, it's lowrestv.com
