Quick question.

When exporting, it asks me for a key frame every x frames. Am I correct in assuming that putting the value to 1 (i.e. a keyframe every frame) produces a smoother animation? Also, I've been running my test animations at 30fps. Would increasing this to 60 fps increase visual quality for final production?

Thx in advance.

You should only use a frame rate which is required by your delivery format: 24 fps for film, 25 or 30 fps for TV, maybe 15 fps for online videos.

A "keyframe" of a video codec is something completely different from the same term in animation. Basically it means that at this point in time the entire frame will be stored in the video file. Other frames before and after that will only be stored as differences to this reference frame. This has nothing to do with your animation, only with the way the video codec stores data.

K, so keeping it at 30 fps then should be fine. So anime studio is prompting me to export at a keyframe every 24 frames, this should be fine then?

Yes, 30fps will be fine. It's not really Anime Studio that's prompting you to export at a keyframe every 24 frames but the codec you've chosen. It just depends what codecs are installed on your machine.

Keyframes in a codec: the more frequent you set them, the bigger the file gets. A keyframe every 10 frames makes a bigger file than one every 30 frames. Usually you can rely on the automatic setting of it, in that case the codec calculates the differences between frames over time and choses some rate.

Only if I have very fast animation I set that number myself, usually to 8 or 12 or 16 or 24, since I usually animate on 2's.
