Hi,

I am having trouble exporting to 29.97 fps. Either choosing command+B or command-E it just won't work.

Let me explain:

- I have recorder the actors voices
- I have edited the audio using Sony Vegas at 29.97 fps
- Animated with AS Pro 5.6 (Mac)
- Rendered my scenes in first instance at 30 fps
- Edited and rendered my video using Final Cut Pro (to avoid constant rebooting into Boot Camp)
- Went back to Sony Vegas to re-synch the reference audio with the original audio sources **
- No synch was achieved whatsoever
- Went back to Mac OS and exported the video to 29.97 fps
- Still no synch on Vegas
- Tried to render again from AS Pro, this time at 29.97 with no luck. Files are 30 fps
- Still no synch

** I used a mixdown of the edited audio to animate and intended to replace it after my final video edit with the original audio source (with separated channels) so I can mix everything correctly in the end.

AS Pro timeline settings:
720x540 @ 30 fps
AS Pro 5.6 (Mac)

AS Pro Exporting settings:
Encoder: Quicktime
Compression: Animation
29.97 fps
keyframe at frame: 15

Has anyone out there experienced this same issue? or maybe better: a solution?

Is this the worst workflow anyone can imagine?

Any help will be extremely appreciated.

Have you tried the same with 30 fps?

I never had to use these odd numbers, and have experienced no trouble with syncing back and forth both 25 and 30 fps projects with AS and FinalCut. If there were some problems in Finalcut I'd just cut the dialogue at an appropriate point and shift it a frame or two. If you experience a much bigger difference than two frames, it could be that you have a problem of different sample rates in different programs, or a more serious fuckup in setting overall FPS values right from the start in the Finalcut/Vegas projects.

I have just solved this brain damaging puzzle. Not the 29.97 exporting thing of ASPro but my syncing problem.

I tried what you recommended on shifting a +- 1 or 2 frames but that didn't work. The length of both audio files just didn't match at all.

I have also tried changing fps the settings of my Final Cut's sequence properties to match my source audio specs with no luck.

But then I went back to Vegas and changed the project fps from 29.97 to 30, exported the 16-bit 48 Khz audio locked into a 30 fps MOV file and voilá, it now fits perfectly in Final Cut.

*bows* De nada. I just know how it feels when you spent hours and hours at a problem and just can't make it work. Deep in the night the frustration grows infinitely. Sometimes shouting helps a bit ...

When I was a child, I tried to repair my bike which always ended in bloody fingers and no success at all. I used to throw the bike on the ground and kick it around. Of course that didn't help much, so I eventually learned to overcome frustration and start again.

The same is true with filmmaking, only without bloody fingers. If you are able to step back and see the problem in a different context, you nearly always are able to find a different solution. There's always more than one way to shave the yak.

Indeed... it's so frustrating.

In my case I am unable to stop trying and trying until I find the solution by myself. Sometimes in an obsessive way.

Obviously, when nothing works out I go and ask for help.

This is my first animation project and I have had to learn from scratch, passing from having mere notions to actually problem solving creatively. Hope I'm doing it right.
