Hi, first time poster...

I created a music video for my band, lined up each movement, added the soundtrack, and everything looks great as I preview it. When I export it to AVI, all it gives me is a black screen with no sound. Windows media player shows that it is running the video, but I don't see or hear anything. I've tried exporting with a couple of the different options selected still with the same results.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I noticed that alot of people prefer me to upload my file somewhere so you can take a look at it yourself. Where should I send it?

Any help will be extremely helpful as I am excited to add a new dimension to the promotion of my band.

Tried exporting to a mov?.....see if that works.

First of all, it's probably unlikely it's the file. Try this -- export a single frame (as a BMP, for example) or just do a preview (if you have ASP). Does that work? If so, then it ain't AS that's the problem.

And from your description it doesn't sound like an AS problem. It's most likely a codec issue, so now your next step is to try and find something that works on your machine (or is broken that you can fix). One example is anything with Quicktime -- QT often "breaks" and can be fixed by reinstalling.

So -- it will help us to know *exactly* how you are exporting. Frame size and codec (compression/decompression) scheme (note that one of the defaults in AS is uncompressed frame size, which is NOT a good option to use as it will generate files much too large to be played properly on almost any system. If you really want to work with uncompressed files you ought to be outputting single frames and using an editor or post effects software to assemble the result).

it's only about the first 500 frames.

I exported this file to the "Microsoft Video 1" format at a compression rate of 75 out of 100.

I tried downloading and installing an updated version of quicktime and now I can see my video but I have no sound. This is the same issue now that I had on my old computer. Video but no sound.

I also can't seem to figure out, as advised, how to export to a single frame. That isn't an option in my export screen and the help function isn't very helpful.

It's becoming clear to me that this isn't a bug with the program and more of a what's my computer missing type of a thing. Thanks to all for input!
