When I fill a shape with a certain color, lets say red and I create the shape, it becomes red. So far so good. But if I want to change the color later I click the entire shape, use the create shape tool, select the color green from fill color, and then press spacebar.
But wait...the shape is still red? OMGWTFBBQ!?!1

Anyone else have this problem or know how to remedy it? Thanks.

You don't want to use the Create Shape tool to do this - you're not creating a shape, you want to modify an existing shape.

So, activate the Select Shape tool, just to the left of the Create Shape tool. Click on the fill in question so that it becomes highlighted with a checkerboard. Now, you can change the fill color, line color, line width, etc.

Use the Create Shape tool to create new fills and outlines. Use the Select Shape tool to modify an existing shape.
