Hey, thanks everyone for their feedback from our first episode of the new season of our series Caucasian Asian. The second episode just posted:

There's a ghost in the first scene, and I use transparent layers to give it a kind of aura, but I couldn't get a good sparkle effect to work.

I thought to use particles (of course) but I wanted them to just appear randomly, not flow through the body. Any thoughts?

Maybe switches would work better?

Anyone out there know a good trick to get a sparkle?

Sparkle Effect

Good work.

In answer to your question about a sparkle effect for a ghost. The best way to get a shimmer is to use the vectors tab in the layer. Here's what we do:

1. Draw the shape in the vector layer.
2. Fill with color (white for a ghost) and then make to the correct opacity (50-75%).
3. The shape's effect should also be soft edged (blur radius at least 9+).
4. Finally, for the shimmer, double click on the layer and click on the vectors tab. Click on noisy fills (and noisy outlines if you have an outline on the shape).

Click on this file

and go to about minute 20:00 to see the shimmer we did in the powerpoint presentation and RGB lamps.

Now we are just amateurs. There are lots of pros on this forum who are in the "biz" who can probably tell you a better way to do it. Hopefully they will chime in and we can all learn.

Cheers,

I did somthing simular for a cartoon I have on YouTube, a few years ago, "Santa Baby"

The singer's dress is both a texture effect and a particle effect. I first created a vector drawing of a plain red dress. Then created a mask for the texture and then added the particle effect to the texture. It took me some time because I was still new to AS-Pro at the time.

If you review the tutorials for masking in the help file, you will see the possiblities.
