Hello All;

I'll start off by saying how excited I am to be part of this online community. I'm really looking forward to learning new skills and animation techniques with the Anime Studio Pro software and with the help and advice from the many talented members here.

I guess my stupid question reveals how little I know about Anime Studio. I would just like to get a general sense how members compare this software to something like Adobe Flash. I'm curious about similarities like ease of use, similar techniques and probably most importantly pitfalls and common mistakes.

In closing, I'll thank, in advance, all those who have taken the time to read and respond to my questions and say that I'm looking forward to being an active and contributing member of this dynamic online community

Welcome aboard.

First of all, AS is definitely not meant for web/interactive content, although it does have swf output (which has to be done carefully to optimize file size). Also AS doesn't have any raster (bitmap) tools, symbols, or any other staples of Flash. If you're looking at the new armature feature in Flash, AS bones still have it beat hands down.

AS is AS. It excels at quick and easy character animation. I'd have to say, aside from its ease of use and versatility, the best thing about AS is that it is actually fun to work with.

The biggest pitfall is ignoring the included tutorials (found in "Help>Help..."). The second biggest would be underestimating the AS drawing tools. They are completely different from any other app and take some practice to get use to, but many of us agree that they are worth the effort to learn. Search the forum for Fazek's replacement tools, as these will save a little discomfort in learning the tools. (They are modifications of the original tools that follow a more standard approach.)

I can't help but think how fullfilling it will be to be able to discuss items of mutual interest in this community and have access to all sorts of experience and expertise.
