First Walk Cycle

Post by rgering »

Hello,

I am new to this group and to animation. This is my first animation and first walk cycle. What do you think?

I hope the link works...the quality is poor and it seems to load really fast the first time but is fine when replayed.

Thanks,
Rob

Hey Rob,
That's a really good job for your first try! (i've seen MANY worse!)
it does exactly what it says on the tin... the legs snap a little mechanically but overall its a good job.

Next step is to try and put some 'character' into your character. give him a querk so he isn't quite so upright/perfect/mechanical :)

Fantastic.

I look forward to seeing more work from you.

You using 'The Animator;s Survival Kit' as reference by any chance?

Looks good.

My only suggestion would be to lean his chest forward a little more. Just a minor thing but still, it would look better.

Yes...the 'The Animator's Survival Kit' is invaluable. I am a visual learner and it all seems to make since. When I started to research what I needed...it was the first thing on the list. I bought Anime Studio Pro a few months ago but I just started to have the time to play with it.

I have been eying the forums (the community was a factor for buying the software). I hope I can learn all the little things. I have been impressed with the advice and talent that are willing to help out us new guys.

Thanks!

As rough as it may seem, you have master the basic walk sequence. Now try altering what you have to create a different style of walking, ie try creating a shorter more dainty, a femine walk (out of place with this character, I know, but it will be a learning experience). Then try a dragging walk. with the body drooped over and the feet dragging forward for the next step.

Learn these walks and others will serve you well in later projects.

For me, you really captured the walk of somebody wearing boots. Those boots make that walk. If you take the wizard guys advice then you should give the character different shoes for each walk.
