It's no new, just a tip. If you want to turn your color animation to black and white, just create a new layer, draw a black rectangle which covers all the output and select "color" in the layer blend mode.

(the rectangle layer must be over the others)

Cool tip, Selgin! I haven't figured out all the blend mode stuff yet, so any tips there are new to me.

Thanks

Cool!

You can animate the transparency of that layer and have it fade from color to black and white or visa versa... like one of those "dream flash backs" or something.

This is cool.

If you do a slightly transparent layer you get a sort of "old timey" desaturated look to it.

Shame you can't see it in preview... it is really hard to animate with the whole screen black.

;) ;)

(just kidding)

oh, I'm glad you like the tip. I wasn't sure about write it here, I thought "everybody must know it, I'm the only one who didn't get it".

 I know you know it, Vern, but also you can hide the layer of the edit view (in the layer properties) and forget it.
you can make it immune to camera movements too.
and of course, you can play with different shapes to get different effects, and you can masking it too.

I've used the color blending mode before to change colors and to create shadows but it never occurred to me to do the black and white thing.

p.s. Yes, I know about turning off the layer.... I just thought it was a hilarious idea to think of trying to animate with a totally black screen... like a polar bear in a snow storm or trying to count crows at night. ;)
