What programs can I use to make textures? I don't have photoshop... I use window's paint program! It works okay for dirt and sand... But what's better? I want to use like take a picture of rope and make a rope texture... Do you know of any Free program that can do this?[/u]

Check out The Gimp. It is free, open source. It has many of the features of high end image editors like Photoshop. Learning curve is a bit steep but it is free. It doesn't handle CMYK but who needs that these days.
