Layer shadows only.

I wish that I could turn off the top layer and have the layer shadow by itself. That way I could imitate Toonboom's drop shadow effect easily.

Layer shadows in AS are limited. All you have are offset blur and opacity. You could just duplicate the layer you want a shadow for and fill the shapes with black. Set layer blur and opacity and you have a layer shadow "without the layer".
Plus as a bonus you can do perspective distortion of the shadow layer for a more realistic shadow.

Not need to fill the shapes with black. Just place the layer you want a shadow inside a group and mask onto it a black shape.
Group (hide all)
- Layer that is going to be a shadow (add to mask but keep invisible)
- Black rectangle shape that covers the above layer (mask this layer)
It would save a lot of time IMHO.

And I was just creating what Genete was talking about (but it took me a while to do the example -- you're too fast, Mr. G! :>)

Ok, thanks. I'm not thinking about how something can be done with a mask.
