Don't fall for that.
According to
http://www.chnpress.com/news/?section=2&id=7161, there's only 5 or 6 drawings on that goblet. The GIF animation is a crappy Photoshop job with 9 phases.
I bet I could construct an "animation" from a good photograph of one of those cave paintings showing a herd of animals - just pick the most fitting poses. I'd rather say that those unknown artists of 10.000 years ago did the same as every artist today: put some variety into their paintings. Calling this "animation" ignores that there's no apparatus to watch it in movement.

Yeah, if it's not a zoetrope, then let's see this 'animation' by 'spinning the bowl'. If you can't actually see the illusion of motion (without modern means) then it's not animation. Kinda like saying a comic book is an animation because it depicts sequencial images.
