If your using a MAC you can do all of that with garage band which is included with every MAC. Windows, not sure. I left left that platform many moons ago and will never return!
Also: I use a program for the MAC called Amadeus Pro. Great program for audio editing. It's $40.00 but worth it if you do a lot of audio editing stuff. I've used it for downloading and converting some old live cassette tapes i have when i used to play for a living.

You didn't say what system. If you are using Windows then Audacity is a good freeware audio program:

Audacity is excellent. It's both for PC and MAC. I really recommend it. And it's open-source.

I use wavepad. Forgot where I got from, but it was free, and is a good simple recorder. Complex editing I use Magix.

What I use
Sony Vegas for recording and mixing.
Sony sound forge for editing and mastering.
Can recommend (If you are gonna buy)
Sonar, Cubase, nuendo.
They have all recording/editing/mixing/mastering/MIDI features + lil less in price
