"Quick Turnaround" -- a good idea?

I've got this idea but I don't know if it's worth anything.

The idea is an "open-source" project called "Quick Turnaround."

It would be a standardized base character for Anime Studio that would be the equivalent of, say for example, Simon in Poser (or Jack in iClone).

Think of it as a community effort released under Creative Commons, with perhaps nothing more restrictive than an attribution requirement.

This base character would be a full-length mannequin in classic artist's proportions.

I assume that the anatomy would consist of different layers for torso, pelvis, thighs, etc.

Call it "Quick Turnaround" because it would provide a foundation turn-around for customized characters: (a) front, (b) rear, (c) three-quarter front, (d) three-quarter rear, and (e) side (=profile).

He would have a standard clothing set of casual clothes.

These clothes would be easy enough to customize, ditto hair etc.

After the core model is available, the community could contribute to the project by uploading custom clothing, etc.

Call him MOAF-- male open action figure.

If it took off, you could also have FOAF -- female open action figure.

I could try to do the original artwork in AS, but I don't know squat about rigging, so others would have to rig this.

And if someone wanted to improve on the initial artwork (or DO the initial artwork), I would say, go right ahead.

This thing could live on SourceForge, I guess, if they accept that sort of project.

I must admit that I don't know if this idea really makes sense, though.

Do you folks think this would be worth the trouble?

Other than crowd applications, I'm not sure how much appeal this would have. Designing your own characters is half the fun.

Bringing them to life being the other half.

(Look at me, talking like I've done anything significant with ASP yet.)

Hey I like Human's idea. While creating your own
stuff is fun, an animation jam session could be
lots of fun as well!

I used to have cartoon drawing jam sessions in a
big bar in Berkeley, California where a lot of
cartoonists hung out. It was fun!
