I'm just starting to learn how to use Anime Studio, and I've decided to keep a journal of all my experiences for posterity. (I'm making ALL the mistakes, so you don't have to.)

I now have my first 23 seconds of animation completed! It's not much, but it's part of my learning process. You can see what I'm up to, along with the whole 23 seconds of video (at the bottom of the page) at http://fiziwig.com/anim/

Right now I'm working on documenting all my mistakes in learning how to draw a character and rig it with bones. Hopefully, by the time I'm done with it, it will turn into a handy tutorial on what to do, what NOT to do, and how to spot and fix common bone mistakes.

Along the way, I seem to be making a movie! All I need now is a story. :)

Hey Gary, Mike here. I'm new to this animation stuff, also. Mid life crisis hobbies! Like your little animations. I kinda chuckled when i read your article because I stumbled upon the same book ( Cartoon Cool ), at Barnes and Nobles and bought it before reading your web page. I also recommend this to someone looking to come up with their own characters. C. Hart seems to keep it simple and the character development really looks great without a lot of detail. They improve even more with the addition of color. For 12 bucks it's a worth while buy. I did some drawing and painting in my younger days so this isn't too hard for me either. Have you tried scanning any images? I just started the tutorials and haven't had the time to try it. I've heard of a few people talking about it and was wondering if you can scan an image and import directly to ASP or even a paint program and then import, and will it be a character that can be animated with BONES if it is scanned? Take care and keep up the good work.

Hi,

I haven't even tried to animate a scanned image. It seems like it would give better control to redraw the scanned image as AS shapes, so that's what I've been doing.
