Thank you everyone for your comments.

Genete, A menu would be a good idea. I will add it.

Man, Gary, I have to say I am truly
impressed with the amount of material
you have produced in these tutorials!

Thanks for sharing all this!

Hi Fiz.
I was looking at your leg rotation foot problem. I would treat the legs like the arms and put them in their own boned switch layer with layer interpolation turned on. This would move the points for you as you switch the feet from front to side and give a perfect point transition.

EDIT: On second thought it is just as easy to use manual point animation as there are only a couple of points to move in each foot.

Sounds like something I should try. But what about when I stop turning at the 3/4 view? Doesn't switch interpolation have to go all the way without stopping in the middle?

I don't use switch layers much these days but there is a cool trick to "create" new layers for a switch from the existing layers.

Suppose you have two layers in a switch and you want a NEW layer "in between" those two layers. This is fairly simple to do.

I found this old Flash tutorial I did ages ago that explains the concept:

http://www.lowrestv.com/moho_stuff/swtichpointcopy.html

It was really for pulling the point motion out of switch animation so that different interpolations could be used but it also works for creating new switch layers quickly. Just add the keys at a spot BETWEEN the switch layer transition and you have a "new" layer. Copy those point keys to frame zero and delete the other key frames.

p.s. Switch layers can only do "Linear" interpolation, no smooth, or ease-in/ease-out etc. This can be a problem for creating dramatic animation. Linear interpolation tends to look a bit "mechanical".

Just came across this thread.
fiziwig's site looks like it might be down.
Are his "secret" tutorials up anyplace else?

Not sure where Fizwig has disapeared to etherpictures. Please let us know if there's anything specific you need help on.

Cheers

Sorry, I know this is an old thread, but this is interesting to me.

So all switch interpolation is linear?
I was hoping I might be able to use switch layers like a sort of
one-frame action, and sort out smooth interpolation between
them. Round it out with tweens to get curves.

Not going to work with switch?
Any changes there with AS6 ?

Thanks!

This is the picture that is prompting my interest on this.

I created a new topic to keep this one cleaner.

Robo, what are you jabbering about? :D
Switches by their nature are actually step interpolation from one to another.
Do you mean animation within the switch, to prepare for the next, say, phoneme for example?
Unfortunately the animation within a switch is bound to the real timeline.
I think the new sequencer in 6 will probably be the answer we would want for this function.
Or the old and effective but clunky layer visibility combined with actions, I know you are well familiar with that one.

PS you using that monitor?

Dude,....

..... I have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about.
Try not to look stunned. Sorry everyone for my silly
questions in this thread.

(Not using the monitor right now, thinking of trying to
replace power supply in my cactus pc and breathe some
life back into it. Would use monitor on that, but dude if
you have a use for it just say the word. I should plug it
into laptop as 2nd monitor....hmm....)

Hi all.
is there no way (or a good guy) to make a simple video-tutorial about this great technique? I'm studying on fiziwig's pdf (site disappeard), but my english walks with a limp!:-)
...or maybe i ask too much?
Thanks!

GEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZ...

Its the first time I'm seen this thread! DK! You're rocking the party here my ou!

This looks fantastic! I still haven't quite figured out how you did this, if you have the file or something to post of the surfer I'd dig to check that out.

Awesome work man. This is like the deluxe way to rig a 2.5D character.Great, well done guy!
