It's not my decision, but we are not hiring a comp team (or even person) due to the budget! So as much needs to be done in Moho as possible (essentially using Moho for comp)

While we don't have visibility of your workflow, most essential compositing tasks should not require bringing someone new onto the team, especially if you can already accomplish the same/similar tasks directly within Moho.
I believe that you and your team will find it a false economy not to invest a little time in learning and applying the basics of comping, as it can save you both time and frustration, and ultimately lead to more efficient & effective workflows; streamlining your processes, and enhancing both your productivity and the overall quality of your productions.
To be clear, at this stage, we are discussing the core fundamentals of NLE (non-linear editing). Applications like DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere, and Final Cut Pro all use timeline-based interfaces with workflows similar to Moho's, so the learning curve should be very manageable given your assumed existing experience with Moho.

I know a lot, and yet I am still within a system where we are trying to use Moho for comp - again not my decisions.
Should Moho decide whether to use cores or not? Or should we? Should Moho decide what dimensions should be used, or should we?
There is absolutely no where to go to ask a question in this community, without clap back!

Hey Dani, what I did back then was to render out a 100 or so frames at a time. I did use a compositor BUT would it be feasible for you to use the "100 frame chunks" as image sequences into moho as a comp (i.e. stacked "horizontally")?
another thought (depends on your file ofc!) is that you might be able to render out the whole in a set of layer comps and then import those as image sequences into moho (i.e. stacked "vertically")?

Thanks Hayasidist. The shot we discovered this issue in was less that 100 frames, but something we can try maybe! We're working in cinemascope, so weird dimensions, if this thread is anything to go by! It's the only thing I feel is 'special' about this project over everything else I have worked on. I have set this up as best I can with all my *assumed knowledge* xD

One trick worth to try:
Render in chunks of 100 frames or whatever works. Import these videos into a clean Moho file, arrange in sequence, and render the whole 1600 frames. It should be able to do this without choking.

I, for one, certainly wasn't offering any "clap back!". I know my response did not address the single-core issue directly, but sometimes alternative approaches may provide solutions that achieve the same end goal.
