I am also having the same problem on Friday morning. I contacted support but so far infirm response.

I thought the problem was on my machine and formatted reinstalling just the anime studio. I am also in the middle of a rush job and managed to install the trial version.

Seems this is affecting more people, so lets hope they fix this very, very soon.
This is also exactly the kind of problem that makes me stay away - if possible - from all this “cloud-based" software or - as we encounter now - server-based registration issues.
I do understand that software makers try to protect their work so no illegal copies can be used, but it should be infinitely reliable for those using the software...

Indeed, but in the end, I guess we will have to get used to this kind of server-based nonsense. Don' t like it.

Anyway, Anime Studio Pro is working well.
I rendered an animation, then closed Anime and used some other apps. Then I opened up Anime again and it works without a glitch.
Hope you guys will be up and running again too !

Hey guys, just received this from SmithMicro:

A recent update to Mac OS Security has changed some behavior. We have needed online updates in place now, which should allow you to launch and use the software.

Before Launching

Shut down your system
Start your system
Launch Safari and make sure you are not blocking Scripting
Launch the application and let me know if you still get the error.
If you were offline you may need to reactivate the software.

I got that reply too. But still not working for me on either laptop or tower.

I tried deleting the preferences from my user/library/preferences folder (com.smithmicro.AnimeStudioProApp.plist and the folder Smith Micro, which contained user info)

I then shut down, restarted, installed again and then, with the wireless connection off, restarted AS10. I then attempted to activate it manually using the ActivationRequest file and getting the certificate back. Did this and (while back offline again, managed to get it working with my serial number in the opening splash screen!

And then I connected to the internet.

And then it crashed again.

So I can work with my registered version on a computer that's not connected to the internet, but as soon as I connect, the program crashes.

Not ideal this.

Has anyone had any luck using the method outlined from Smith Micro?

Day 2. no land is sight yet for this weary traveler.

Hello all

I've been having this same problem since it Sunday morning, although the program hand't been opened for a few days. I'm on Mac OS 10.10.1 Yosemite, and I get the dreaded "quit unexpectedly" message seconds after trying to open it.

I got the same message from tech support about the recent security update, despite not even using Safari as my browser of choice. I didn't even think to check this forum until now, and must admit I'm a bit relieved to see that others are having the same problem. Especially after doing a complete factory reboot on my Imac didn't fix the problem either.

Strangest thing was, it was working fine on my macbook, but I way prefer the bigger IMac screen. That is ofcourse until the multiple re-installs burnt through my license limit, meaning I've now also gotta get that reset.

Hopefully we'll get some sort of fix in the next day or two.

I also get the same crash with Safari open 10.6.8
Will test one more time to be sure.

Update#1 Silly of me to try but it had to be tested.
It's the server connection and everyone has proved it with validation posts.

Today, Anime Studio would not start - again, so the problem is back !

This is getting confusing, as it was working ok yesterday.

Sorry to hear there' s more people out there having troubles , but this may be a “good" thing to have them look at this thoroughly then...

What's confusing is that it affects Snow Leopard, Mavericks and Yosemite. If it was a security issue that Apple have forced through that's made this happen, how come it's affected Snow Leopard too which, as of March this year, didn't appear to be getting any further security updates from Apple? It might help Smith Micro solve what might be causing the issue if we can narrow down the timeframe window that it stopped working. The timestamp on the file that I last successfully opened with AS10 (i.e. the last time I know that AS10 was working fine) was 12/11/2014. Had anyone else used AS10 successfully since then?

hey there. Exact same thing happening to me as well on Maverick. Just as i'm getting ready to take on a new project. Please smithmicro team, do something quick.

I don' t think it is a security issue, Alex.

I just tried starting Anime Studio while I had unplugged my internet connection.
Anime Studio fired up ok.
Then I plugged-in the cord while Anime was open : it crashed immediately...

Unplugged again and fired up Anime. Works ok.
Then I opened the preferences dialogue and unchecked “Allow sending analytics information to Smith Micro".

Closed Anime, connected to the net and opened Anime... BINGO !
It is working while connected now.

Hope this works for you guys too ! Good luck...
If not, try this:
open the file /Users/Shared/Library/Application Support/Smith Micro/Anime Studio Pro/10/Anime Studio Pro10.app.settings
change: "pa_CanSendAnalytics" "TRUE" to "FALSE"

You're a genius! That might explain why some users (who've got that selected) are having the issue and some aren't (who may have it deselected).

Have you let Smith Micro know?

At least they've got an in on how to avoid the issue (and we've got a program to work in again).

Unfortunately Anime Studio can't send them analytics to say what was going wrong, but hey...
