Yeah, it's the mask. Masking gets a little complicated when it comes to maintaining outlines on overlapping objects. I first encounted this issue in early attempts to recreate anime styled art in moho.
To correct this:
1. select the eye white layer in the layers window
2. click the duplicate layer button at the top of the window
3. drag the new layer up to the top level of the eye group folder
4. click on the shape select tool in the tool window under fill
5. click on the eye white object (it'll turn into a checkered pattern)
6. uncheck enable fill in the style window
