Use white for every fill and black for every stroke. Then create a layer on top of the project with a colored rectangle and set the blending to multiply.
You will be able to animate the fill color of the entire project with it.
That sounds like a winner.

Has anyone tried the project setting ‘render fill with background colour’? When I tried it worked but doesn’t seem to want to use a colour other than the default. What I mean is if I change the background colour in the preferences this new colour is ignored and the render uses the default.
