And don't forget we are still able to do it natively, it just requires you have selected (for example) an extra temporally created point when creating the shape. I do it all the time at shapes creation time, normally simply having a reusable dummy curve made of two points at any place in viewport with this only purpose that I simply delete afterwards. I'm aware this is well known, but I thought that for some less experienced people it could worth a mention just in case...
