I understand what you mean now, for the first image i created my own brush to create the bushes and the trees leaves, you can create your own brushes just make them in AS and then export them as png images, put them inside the brushes folder.

To create the tree trunks of the second image i used alot of shapes with soft edge effect applied.

Ok this is making more sense... still having trouble figuring out how to color in shapes with textures though... Under Effect 1 and 2 you can import a texture, but then you cannot tint it.

Yes you can import image textures inside the shape i use it sometimes but not too much.To color shapes with brushes, make strokes inside the shape with brush applied, its simple.
