Hey....now there's an idea I hav'nt looked at yet. It may be possible to do something with images now with the new bone texture warping function. I'll have a play with it and see what happens.

Here's my quick attempt, using a simple circle mask and an image of a head. It's kinda.. crappy. Didn't Genete modify your rig to allow up and down movement as well?

I think I'm suffering Ramon Lopez's curse... For old people of the forum who knew Ramon online, they know that he was a big fun of bones at the beggining.... In his lasts posts (before he dissapears) he defended the point motion more than anything.

I'm more slowtiger's fun than heyvern's fun everyday. I think bones reduces my expresivity. it is like make a show with a marionette (with bones) compared to make a show with a globe puppet (point motion). I have more freedom with the last one.

jhbmw007: sorry for intrude into your thread.

Hole heck jhbmw007!!! That's pretty darn impressive. I had a play with the bone textures moving an image of a head but I could'nt get anywhere with it. How did you set up the bones to do that?

EDIT:
The up and down movement was implemented by another user, (darned if I can remember the name) but if you go back and look at the old thread he uploaded a lions head that used this up and down technique, Heyvern also implemented a script that allowed all movement, side to side, up and down, to be controlled by only one bone which was very cool.

Genete...I used to be a little anti-bone myself in favour of point animation but these days I think that both techniques have merit rather than take sides with one over the other especially with the recent addition of bone texture warping jhbmw007 just may be onto something interesting.

Pretty cool experiment jhbmw007. The raster image warping feature in Anime Studio is kind of limited, but I've seen Greykid Pictures and vovanimation do some great stuff with it. You went in a different direction that has some potential, but getting better than that may be more than Anime Studio can handle.

And Genete doesn't like bones? That's like Ronald McDonald switching to Burger King. It's crazy talk! The real Genete would never say that, this is an imposter. Else we need to send Genete some medicine quick, he's definitely not feeling well!

I think Genete's been corupted by the bonelessness of Synfig.

Why oh why do we always lose our great scripters around here?

I think Genete's been corupted by the bonelessness of Synfig. ;)
it is partially true. I still missing bones in synfig. ;)

But what I've said is that:
I think bones reduces my expresivity
Maybe I can return (like the stand alone Jedi) and would obtain more satisfying results using point motion and bone motion. IMHO leaving all the responsibility to bones is a really hard task that overwhelm me for the current results I obtain.

I feel day by day that bone motion produces robotic movements. With point motion you obtain a more "elastic skin" to the characters. Even bone dynamics bores me if not used properly.

And don't worry, I'll not disappear like Ramón! ;) But scripter roll is difficult to maintain during a lot of time if you want to improve your drawing skills and/or your animation skills. My free time is limited.

I'll keep the best of both worlds and I still being here daily, trying to help as much as I can :D

Well here's my 2nd attempt at the rotating freaky head guy:

Added blinking eyes. All still controlled by actions. Now on to mouth positions!

Wow. Can you share how you're doing it with us? Just a brief explanation would be great....a as file would be even better :)

Great work anyway keep it up!!!

Here's the anme file and the image being used:
http://www.mediafire.com/?e0d0ytefy3j
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d140/ ... artoon.jpg

It started with just adding additional horizontal bones extending outward from the middle of the face, so that the whole length of the face would be stretched/squashed when turned. The mask layer was originally just a filled circle, it's now a circle with holes in it for the eyes and teeth.

To have the eyes/teeth show I duplicated the first head layer and removed the holes in the mask. When applying blinking actions you would only apply them to the top head layer, so that the eyeballs aren't warped when he blinks, only the "eyelids". Same would go for the mouth, which I haven't attempted to rig movement to.

This is probably as far as I'm going to mess with it- if anyone else takes it further please post your results here!
