if anyone can shed some light on how this thing works i'm all ears. The basics are simple enough as stated in the instruction manual, but i can't for the life of me work out how the point of contact to the path is specified, it seems totally unrelated to the layer origin so there must be some hidden secret...
i kept getting objects attaching way offset from the line! Also, related to this, the rotation of the attached object - how do you make sure up is up when attaching to a path?? i tried to use this in a project, i managed to make it work for me on one part but other parts just wouldn work at all...
aside: dunno if this is a bug, but i was trying to make an arrow head follow a path which was being drawn out by the path exposure tool, and i dont think what you see in the editor is EXACTLY what renders - due to the problems above i tried frame by framing the arrow head by hand making sure it's always at the tip of the line but the render showed the line further forward than the arrow, despite the editor looking perfect...??

follow path tool and stroke exposure problems...

Make 2 layers, one with the curve and other with the shape; I like to have the curve above the shape layer, also you can go ahead and make the curve a shape also so you can see it while on the shape layer. At frame 0, while on the shape layer, click the follow path tool then click on an end of the curve. Now, make sure the shape and origin are at that point; if the origin wasn't in the middle of the shape you can move it to the origin now. More or less make sure that the shape is at 0,0 on the origin so you don't have to move the shape manually later. Next move to somewhere in the time line and click on the other end of the curve.

Ah! Thanks Stephen, i got most of that right, except i was ignoring the origin of the path layer - i've just done an experiment which worked as expected!
One thing i didnt realise is that if you select the object and click off the path with the follow path tool it 'unlinks' it - as prior to unlinking and linking, changes to the origin of either path or object make no changes... that's what was driving me nuts - it started wrong, but trying to fix it seemed to have little or no effect.

just tried the same thing on my more complex file and it doesnt seem to work... i've managed to make the arrow head follow the same path as the line but even if head position 0 to 100 matches the exact frames as sillhoette 0 to 100 with the same interpolation, they don't stick together - it's almost as thought the path exposure tool is doing it's own easing between path points regardless of the fact only two key frames exist on the timeline??
