What's point animation?
On this forum people keep using that term. Does that mean manual animation?

I believe that point animation refers to the actual manipulation of an object's points to create an animated effect, rather than by using bones.
In other words, in order to get a mouth to move from a frown to a smile, set a keyframe and manipulate the mouth's points to form the smile. You can certainly create bones to create all sorts of effects (Vern's demo reel proves that) but at times it's more time-efficient to get in there and manipulate points if it's a one-off type of thing you are going after.
