Open Renamed Files

Post by totonka »

Hello!

I have a little problem I hope someone knows how to solve: I changed the filename of my Moho file and now Moho doesnt recognize it when I open it. The same happens when I move the file to another folder.

Is there a way to open this file so I do not loose my work?

Thanks!

Did you change the file extension to something other than .moho or .anme?

Well as long as the extension is there and all you did was change the name it will open. If you MOVED it then any linked assets like image layers or sounds will not load. BUT the file will still OPEN.

You did something else to the file you either haven't told us or you forgot about. Or when you say "doesn't recognize" you mean something different. If there is an error tell us what the error says.

The file does open and the problem shows itself at the main screen of moho, on which a big icon appears: it is a big broken file icon, whith a circle, a square and a triangle, that i believe indicates theres a broken link between files. This happened to a file which I changed the name (only the name, it is still .moho) and to another file I moved to another location. The big icon also appeared after I moved the file back to the original location.

Has this never happened to you? Do you know if theres a way I can repair this without having to do the animation again from scratch?

This has nothing to do with renaming the AS file. If you rename or move any of the image or sound files you are using in the AS project, you have to relink them. AS finds these 'assets' by their name and location, so changing either loses your link.

To expand on what synthsin75 said... it is when you MOVE the AS file that is breaking those links.

If you want to move a file you should open the file in AS and do a "save as..." to a new location. This of course will not bring the images along with it. They will stay in the original location.

Or you could Move the AS files AND all the assets to the new location. If the links are breaking this means you have "relative" links. The images are in the same folder as the AS file. Moving them breaks the links. If you move the AS file and the assets (images) to the same "new" location those links will still be relative and still work.

If you move the images and NOT the AS file... that's not as easily fixable. You would either need to relink them in the AS file in AS or use a text editor to change the paths.
