Sketchy rounded line caps

To get rounded line caps with the Sketchy Line feature.

1.Create a line around 8-10 linewidth is ideal.

2.Click on the Sketchy effect.

3. Set Radius to 8.

Note: This feature only displays when rendered.

Same settings, this time used on a straight line with the Line Width Tool on one end.

The Sketchy Line feature in AS exports perfectly into Flash.

Great feature!
Is rounded ends all the effect does?, if so I think "sketchy" is a bit misleading and not explaining what the effect does.

As far as I could tell that's about it. I took me a while to figure out what Sketchy meant too but I'm so happy with the rounded line caps I'm not going to complain

Well....you know what....I think it may have been there now I think of it. The only reason I looked was because I've been going through the interface looking for new things added since 5.5. Surely it could'nt have been there all along could it?

HOLY GUACAMOLE!!! Sketchy line feature has been there all along. Just re-installed 5.5 to check!!!

Oh well......just goes to show. AS is full of suprises.

..and it exports to Flash without any complications? (it doesn't make the file sizes bigger or anything?) - Thats great!, thanks again for posting.

I exported a very simple object using the Sketchy line feature and it seemed to import into flash perfectly. The rounded caps are one aspect of Flash that I really love in my linework and that has forced me to work in Flash for certain projects in the past which is a pain for complex character animation. Now I can do it all in AS once again

Jeez, this is why we need a comprehensive manual for ASP. Think of all the headaches a simple definition of the sketchy effect could have saved.

Thanks DK, always wondered what this did. Discovered the maximum setting is 8. The line does go a little soft at this settings, which can be both desirable or a problem, depending on what you are doing.

I'm going back to a problem character with discontinuous lines to see if this is better than the brush solution.

Many years ago, when I was doing technical writing, we used to produce "task-oriented" documentation based on the premise

"if you want to do X" then choose "tool or method Y"

I can imagine someone doing a lengthy table of these hints, and there would be a place in it for this technique.
