Breaking IK chain during animation?

Post by TonyPolizzi »

When using bones, is there a way by which my character can put a box down and moving his arm back to its rest position, leaving the object on the ground?

The same applies also for picking up a glass from a table, or putting a hat on, etc. Is there a way to reparent bones during animation?

Any other solution is welcome.

Thanks

For the moment there is not a way for reparent bones during animation. To perform that task the best way is have duplicated layers/shapes of both situations:
Object carried on (object on hand and nothing on floor) and object leaved off (nothing on hand and object on floor). Change visibility of each layer/shape at the exact time to produce the illusion that the object is left or carried on.

I think heyvern has an example in this forum of an arm picking a sword.

Thank you, Genete.

I will try the method you suggest. For the future, it would be really nice to have the possibility to reparent bones during animation or any other simpler method for achieving the same effect I mentioned in my previous post.

Best Wishes,
Tony
