Can I interpolate colours line width etc. in my switch layer

Wondering how to accomplish a certain animation task? Ask here.

Can I interpolate colours line width etc. in my switch layer

Post by kasjorg »

Well the subject line says it all! I don´t seem to be able to do interpolation between switchlayers that change colour or line width even though that´s a very simple task if I animate it on the timeline! In my switch layers will change like singleframe animation and just skip the smooth inbetweens!! can it be done?

Yes, animate the color as usual (using keys) and the same in all child layers of the switch layer. For instance:
frame 1 -> light green fill and dark green outline
frame 7 -> light purple fill and dark purple outline
frame 13 -> as frame 1

Rasheed, I don't understand how to do that, is it really possible to make line width and color interpolate inside a switch layer? in timeline it's working great but if you use ordinary key interpolation in time line then it's not possible to set your switch anywhere, at least I think so, I've tried but I'm not able to get it to work.

No, you interpolate color inside the vector layers that are the child layers of a switch layer. AFAIK switch layers cannot interpolate colors, only point positions.
switch layer (animate switching layers)
|
+-> vector layer 1 (animate colors and point positions)
+-> vector layer 2 (animate colors and point positions)

You can start off with a single vector layer, in which you animate the fill and outline colors of shapes. Then you copy this layer one time or more times and modify the shapes of these copy layers. Next, you put all these vector layers inside a switch layer (as childs) and select Interpolate sub-layers in the Switch menu of the switch layers. Finally you switch the sub-layers of the switch layer.

It is a bit complicated, but the question was if it was possible and this is a possible solution.

Well ok I unsderstand the it is possible if you animate the colour and line witdh in the timeline, -but what I wanted to do was to have my character turn his head from 2/3 view to side view. I have my mouth as a shape and I want the lines to be invisible on 2/3 view and turn on on side view. Now off course it would only be to save time and make me able to choose a view from my switch layer and not have to animate the line width each time I turn the head, -but I guess the interpolate functiuon only works with vector points! It would be pretty cool if other effects could be interpolated as well just to speed up the work process.

You could save your head turn as an action and then just insert the action every time you wanted the head to turn.
