What I'd like to do is have hands that have multiple sets of bones in a switch layer. So depending on which hand is selected, those bones in the hand's switch layer would control the hand.
That's simple enough... however, I can't make the wrist bone in the hand layers reparent to the arm bone in the main bone layer above the switch layer. When I move the arm, the hand just stays there.
How do I attach this to my character's arm?
How can I do this?

Layer bind the switch layer to the arm bone.

Re: How can I do this?
Also, you *can* put a bone in the switch layer; parent it to the forearm bone, then you can rotate the hand as you want.
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?
Re: How can I do this?
Can you elaborate on exactly how you'd do that? Where would you put the bone? How would I connect the bones in the individual layers to that? Would really love to solve this!'
Re: How can I do this?
okay, i highlighted the switch layer in the layers window, then drew a small bone in, which i bound to the forearm bone via layer binding. Now it's working. I did another layer binding below that to the new bone, but not sure exactly what i did. going to redraw my simple experiment to make sure I understand it. Thanks for the hints everyone. it's definitely working

Re: How can I do this?
Of course, every answer breeds another question (and only one if you're lucky)... the question is how to control the bones in the sublayers during animation. I note that when I use the transform bone tool to move the bones during animation, all is fine. when i use the manipulate bones tool to move the bones, it works fine in the top bone layer, but
in the sublayers, it moves the entire bone and layer.
in the sublayers, it moves the entire bone and layer.
