Adding bones to .obj file

Is there a tutorial somewhere on rigging an .obj object. Let's assume I import the "Panda" .obj --what EXACTLY is next? Can it be rigged and animated with normal bone manipulation? Can someone point me to how?
Thanks.

Illustrator 8 too old?

I'm using Illustrator 8 as my .ai source for files. When I "import/ Illustrator Files" in AS7pro, nothing happens - no error message, no file appearance.
Am I missing some step or is Illustrator 8 too old for AS to deal with?

720 x 720 Real max output?

The AS pro 7 manual lists "720x720 maximum render". How can professionals get by with output so small? Am I interpreting this incorrectly?

One bone layer per character?

I may be the only one who doesn't know this, but is it necessary to create a new, separate bone layer for each character you want to rig?

Already rigged?

Thanks for your answer. Are you saying that in the Quick Start tutorial, the Frank character was already rigged when imported? That it simply accepted new bones? Seems like a misleading teaching example. Would Smith Micro do that?

Best file format to rig?

What is the best native file format to import into Studio Pro 7, if your ultimate objective is to apply bones to animate? In the Quick-Start tutorial, the user is instructed to import an "Anime Studio Object" which then accepts bones perfectly. What's the underlying file format of the Anim...
