I increased scale to 20 and retested and the same problem occurs.

I really love the splotchy fill look, but maybe I'll have to try something else. At least on the trees closest to the camera.

Yes, splotchy is the fill. The movement is very pronounced in the trees that are close to the camera. It is like looking through a window and the splotchy fill is the wallpaper in the room beyond.

I am using the shift button to zoom into the scene, but the controller is 4, the track camera.

Don't let yourself get confused with the mere dpi number. Since you work for screen, you should make it a habit of measuring all dimensions in pixels. I think this has to do with ram. AS loads images from external files. Each of those images use resources. I think maybe AS is choking due to all the images that have to be loaded into ram to be rendered. Rendering one frame doesn't need all that ram. Try rendering to an image sequence. If that does...

Your AS file has lost the path to the images. You have moved either the AS file or the image files to a different location, between rendereing one image and exporting a scene.
